6 COOLING SYSTEM CHECKS TO DETECT AN ENGINE OVERCOOLING

May 19, 2021

The cooling system of a vehicle is essential for its correct operation. As temperatures rise, all the problems caused by an engine overheating are increased. Nevertheless, an excessive engine working temperature is not the only factor that may be harmful to the vehicle engine.

When the working temperature is too low, several other related problems that we must avoid, such as the premature component wear, an increased fuel consumption and an emission level higher than usual, also occur.

Are you a true professional of the automotive industry? On this occasion, we show you 6 essential checks that must be carried out to detect an engine overcooling:

  1. Check that the vehicle working temperature is close to the one recommended by the manufacturer.
  2. Verify that the fan can be correctly activated or deactivated.
  3. Check the fan speed is appropriate when the clutch is deactivated.
  4. Make sure that the fan clutch elements are able to rotate freely and are unlocked.
  5. In case that the clutch of your cooling system is electronic, regularly check both the wiring state and the resistance of the activation coil.
  6. Check the state of the thermostat and its closing or opening capacity within the temperature parameters set by the manufacturer.

When carrying out these checks, you could verify in a simple way whether the cooling system state of your vehicle is optimum, and also detect quickly any problem.
